Raise your hand if you think you have good manners. WOW! That’s a lot of hands. I’m so glad to know my readers have good manners. Usually, manners are taught by your parents. But sometimes, they are taught by other people outside of the home as well. My teacher at school loves to talk about having good manners. Every Friday for about a half an hour before school is over, we play the manners game. The teacher asks a question about manners and us kids answer the question.
Questions like….
What do you say when asking someone for something, you say, “please”
What do you say when someone gives you something? You say,
“thank you”
What do you say to someone who is speaking, and you absolutely have to interrupt? You say,
“excuse me”
What do you say when you accidentally bump into someone? You say, “I’m sorry”
These are just a few examples where good manners are important. There are so many more times where manners are important like when you’re at the dinner table or at a friend’s house. And then there are times when someone with a lot of packages in their arms is trying to open a door? What do you do? You hold the door open for them, of course. And then what do you do when you see an older person on a bus with no seat to sit in? You offer them your seat. These are just a few of the things we discuss on Friday’s in school. There are so many more. And the best part of being courteous, nice, polite, gracious, kind, and respectful is that they’re all free. What could be better than that?
